San Jose Museum of Art
San Jose, CA
A combination of a renovated historic post office and addition of a new building, the design divides the Museum’s functions between the old and new in a manner that utilizes each of the buildings’ assets to their fullest advantage. The new building with its large clear structural spans and modern environmental controls houses galleries and art handling functions. The historic building, with its intimate scale, houses offices, art school, auditorium, bookstore and café. Between the two buildings is a new entry hall.
Their design skills are quite excellent as well as the quality of project coordination including the ever-present elements of scheduling and budget from their non-profit experience they are adroit at working within tight budgets.
