Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
San Francisco, CA

The Center for the Arts precludes both a permanent collection and resident companies in favor of offering affordable and flexible facilities to be used by local artist groups. The facility contains galleries, high-tech media screening room and “forum” for performing arts, lectures and receptions. Commissioned before sustainability went mainstream, the Center was on the cutting edge of gallery design and technology, utilizing natural light controlled through a variety of glazing assemblies that respond to solar orientation.

(Shah and Kawasaki's) efforts in coordination of the architectural design and advice on technical issues was essential in assuring the successful completion of our project.
